Superbowl 43...

The Cardinals are going to the Superbowl!!!

I have always been a Cardinal fan (OK, baseball) who knew they had a football team too. But I'v always been a fan...always!

Why? I don't follow the teams or even know any of the players names, but I love the birds!

So I will be cheering for the Cardinals! They have pretty uniforms too.

Feeding the birds...

here is the pecan tree in the backyard, see how the morning glories have grown up on everything...they even reached up and attached themselves to the upper limbs.

see I don't always sleep till noon, I was up early enough this morning to get a picture of the open morning glories. Ok, it was cloudy today and this was taken about 11:00 a.m.

and see...I got a new bird feeder...now they have two to chose from. We have seen "mountain bluebirds" in the yard the last 3 weeks. There are 5 - 6 of them. I think there baby birds and have a nest nearby. We also have Bluebirds, Cardinals and any number of different small birds, we've also had a Robin this summer.

Summer dip...

Yesterday as we set at the dining room table, Kenneth saw a bird diving into Dusty's pool and then preening himself, over and over he would dive through the water then set on the clothesline pole or the arm of the porch swing and preen and stretch its wings. All the years we've lived here I always thought that the birds would be drawn to the pool, because it always has water in it, but this is the first. It was fun to watch it having such a good time.

Just to add a note:
I came across these vintage cross-stich patterns that are very similar to the ones I am making, so if your interested in doing some cross-stitching this summer...take a look.

Good or bad...you decide

every year since we've lived here we've had Barn Swallows nesting in the front porch and in the carport. This year we only had two pair return to nest. This is one set of babies, I think there are five, unfortunately the day I took this picture was very hot and humid with little breeze and the next day we found four of the babies dead on the porch. Probably heat exhaustion. So there's only one left. Some people would say they are bad because they make such a mess under the nest areas, but I like to listen to them.
When I went out to water Sunday we had a visitor. I tried to get a picture of the web, very pretty and detailed. I didn't bother him/her just watered around and the next day it was gone.
