The Idea...

the color scheme... buckets for nick-knacks and matching bedding (both 60% off)

2 gallons pale pink paint...

and bright colored ribbon...

look what I found in the back of a closet...

BIG window... still trying to figure out what type of curtains.

Bring in my craft cabinet from the shop, where it's been stored for 10 years, (paint it?)
to store the sewing/craft stuff.

Need to buy: black board paint (I have an idea), under cabinet light,
dowel rods for a thread holder, I already have a piece of peg board.

Let the painting begin...

UPDATE: Sorry, this redo is being put on hold while I am away
baby sitting.

Some jobs just have to wait while you go play.

Before...

ever since Sam moved out his room has become... the exercise room,

an extra closet and storage room,

a pantry,

the beginnings of the girls room...

and my sewing/craft room...

Now it is to become "The Girls Room"

I have an idea! I can hear it now, "OH MY" Mom has an idea.
Stay tuned.

Curtains...

I am making a new kitchen curtain/valance...

this little pin cushion is so handy, it fits on your finger so the pins are "right there".
It's made from a plastic bottle cap, a bit of fabric, cotton and elastic.

I used stitch #26 on part of the valance...

very pretty, even though I know no one will ever know its there.
I do.

finished product simple gathered valance made from 1 yd. of material.
I think it would be pretty with a scalloped eyelet piece underneath.

kitchen garden 2010

this year I planted sweet potato vines in the hanging baskets...I first
saw them in a magazine, they are great for hanging.

Who left that door open! don't you know the air is on!

I got lazy this year and started the entire garden from seed on April 20th...
the tomatoes are just now putting on blooms.

the front bed are bush green beans, we have been eating these as they come off...
the last bed is okra and peppers.

the lemon/lime trees are doing really well this year, maybe I'll finally get some fruit.

this is Sam's room, the part that still needs to be child proofed.
and my sewing machine is broken again, it is 36 years old, maybe its time for something new.

red kitchen...

I got a new kitchen trash can with a lid, in red... Love It!

also a new tea maker (red) and a basket for picking vegetables from the garden.

the new tea pitcher (red)... and my favorite creamer "peppermint mocha",
do you see the theme going here?

after we put in the new doors, Kenneth said we needed a curtain.
But I like the view...Oh well, since I got some material (thanks Mom) for free I went ahead and made up this curtain. I still need to do some hand sewing to finish it, but I think it turned out really well. The idea came from here. Kenneth found the rod at WalMart, its magnetic.

If we're doing the windows...

can we replace the front door too...

I like this one...

a NEW front door...

It's also covered under the tax credit and we'll get back 30% next year...

it opens, it closes, it doesn't stick, it doesn't leak air around the edges, and it had a dead bolt lock!
Now what about the utility room door?

Free fixture...

this was the swag lights that hung over the vanity...the ones in the master bathroom were similar to these but we took them down before I got a picture.

Several years ago as I passed a Garage Sale that was packing up I spotted something I just thought I had to have. So I turned around and went back to ask the price and they said "take anything you want for FREE". We're finished and if you want it you can have it. WOW! So I picked up this light fixture...of course it didn't have any globes with it but I thought it would look good in the bathroom.

Fast forward to now... we started looking at Home Depot and Lowes for globes and they were $5 - $6 dollars apiece. Well the last couple weeks I have been going through things and we had a bunch of stuff we took in to the Salvation Army, we decided to go in and look around and found a whole bunch of globes for .99 each! So we picked out three we liked and came home to put them up in our bathroom. Unfortunately these are the ones I picked out and they wouldn't fit on the fixture, they were too big at the base. Now what? Well...we went into Amanda's room and took the globes from the ceiling fan and switched them out.
Very pretty. All's well that ends well.

bedroom update...

I bought a new summer quilt for the bed, the walls are light blue. I had some real sheers I've kept in the closet for years, so I now have real curtains. I repainted the headboard, which was black, and added a touch of pink.

We moved the light from Amanda's room to add a soft touch.

and a ceiling fan!

soft fuzzy light blue rugs on each side of the bed, with light gray floors.

This is the vanity area which I still have to finish painting and update the 1970's light.
